Description

French Toast is a classic breakfast dish made by soaking bread in a sweet, cinnamon-vanilla custard, then pan-frying until golden brown, crispy on the outside, and soft inside.

Ingredients

4 thick slices of brioche, challah, or white bread

 2 large eggs

1/2 cup whole milk (or heavy cream for richer flavor)

 1 tbsp sugar

 1 tsp vanilla extract

 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

 Pinch of salt

 1 tbsp butter (for cooking)

Optional Toppings:

 Maple syrup

 Powdered sugar

 Fresh berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)

 Whipped cream

 Chopped nuts (almonds, pecans)

Instructions

1. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.

2. Heat butter in a skillet over medium heat.

3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds per side.

4. Place bread onto the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.

5. Remove from heat and serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  •  Use stale bread for the best texture it absorbs custard without becoming too soggy.
  •  Swap milk for almond or oat milk to make it dairy-free.
  •  Add orange zest or nutmeg for extra flavor.
  •  Serve immediately for the crispiest results.
