Ingredients
- 2 cups cooked ham, diced
- 4 cups potatoes, thinly sliced
- 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Slowly add the flour, whisking continuously to form a roux.
- Gradually pour in the milk and cream while stirring until the mixture thickens.
- Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, half of the diced ham, and half of the cheese. Repeat the layers.
- Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the layers.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
Use a mandoline for uniform potato slices and let the dish sit for a few minutes after baking for easier serving.
