Description

A comforting, creamy dish made with tender potatoes, savory ham, and gooey cheese, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cooked ham, diced
  • 4 cups potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or Gruyère)
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Slowly add the flour, whisking continuously to form a roux.
  3. Gradually pour in the milk and cream while stirring until the mixture thickens.
  4. Season with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  5. In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, half of the diced ham, and half of the cheese. Repeat the layers.
  6. Pour the creamy sauce evenly over the layers.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  8. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Use a mandoline for uniform potato slices and let the dish sit for a few minutes after baking for easier serving.
